Navigating the WebUI

The VMEase WebUI is organised around a persistent top bar, a permission-aware left sidebar, and a breadcrumb page header that together let you reach every module.

Navigating the WebUI

Purpose

Use this page to:

  • Orient yourself in the top bar, sidebar, and page header.
  • Understand which items you can see and why.
  • Move quickly from a section to the module you need.
  • Recognise when a missing item is a permission gap, not a fault.

Prerequisites

  • Sign in with a valid VMEase account; your JWT session governs what you can see.
  • Each sidebar item requires its module read permission, for example compute.vms.read for Virtual Machines.
  • The Alerts bell requires platform.alerts.read.
  • The Platform section requires a root account.
  • Confirm your account context before making changes.

The top bar (always visible)

  1. Click the VMEase logo (top left) to return to the Home Health Dashboard.
  2. Use the global search box to find resources; type at least two characters, then pick a result or press Enter to open the first match.
  3. Open the Alerts bell to see recent alerts and a count badge, then select View all alerts for the Alerts page (requires platform.alerts.read).
  4. Open Task Manager to see recent asynchronous tasks and their status, then select View All Tasks for the full Task Manager.
  5. Open the Help (?) menu for Documentation, Raise a Bug, and Raise a Feature Request.
  6. Open the Account menu (showing your account name and email) to Logout, or to Exit Account when working inside a delegated tenant context.

The left sidebar

  1. The sidebar lists Home plus collapsible sections: Compute, Networking, Data Protection, Resource Management, Organisation, Multi-tenancy, Access Control, and Platform (root only).
  2. Home links directly to the Health Dashboard.
  3. Compute contains Virtual Machines, Disks, Storage Pools, Monitoring, and an Image Library group with Templates, ISOs, and Appliances.
  4. Networking contains Networks, Subnets, Firewalls, and VPN.
  5. Data Protection contains Backups; Resource Management contains Groups.
  6. Organisation contains Quotas, Billing, and Logging.
  7. Multi-tenancy contains Tenants, Billing, and Shared Resources.
  8. Access Control contains Users, User Groups, and Roles.
  9. Platform (root only) contains Global VMs, Clusters, Cluster Monitoring, Syslog, Audit Log, and Import VMs.
  10. Expand or collapse a section, and the Image Library group, to focus on the area you are working in.

Permission-aware navigation

  1. Each item is tied to a read permission and appears only when your role grants it, for example networking.vnets.read for Networks.
  2. Sections with no permitted items are hidden entirely.
  3. The entire Platform section is hidden for non-root accounts, regardless of permissions.
  4. A missing item usually indicates a permission gap, not a defect; request the relevant permission if you expect access.
  5. Route protection still applies to direct URLs, so an unauthorized page is blocked even if reached manually.

The page header and breadcrumb

  1. The page header bar sits below the top bar and shows a breadcrumb trail for your current location.
  2. Use the menu toggle on the left of the header to collapse or expand the sidebar.
  3. Detail pages show contextual tabs on the right of the header, for example a VM's Details, Monitoring, Logging, and Backup tabs.
  4. A connectivity banner appears above the header if the WebUI cannot reach the cluster.
  5. Expected result: The breadcrumb reflects the active page and updates as you navigate.

Best Practices

  • Start from the section closest to your task, then open list pages before create or edit flows.
  • Confirm your account context before write operations.
  • Use global search to jump straight to a known resource.
  • If an expected item is missing, check your role permissions before assuming a defect.
