Complete the setup wizard
The first time you open the appliance, a one-time setup wizard runs in your browser to activate VMease, create your admin login, and connect your first cluster.
Complete the setup wizard
Overview
- The setup wizard runs in your browser before you log in — it opens automatically the first time you visit the appliance's web address.
- It walks you through four things: activating your licence, creating your admin account, connecting your first Proxmox VE cluster, and setting that cluster's quotas and networking.
- When you finish, the appliance provisions itself (this can take a few minutes) and returns you to the sign-in page.
Before you begin
- You have installed the appliance and opened its web address — see How to install VMease (click here)
- Your VMease Licence Key.
- For your first cluster: a Proxmox VE host IP address and its root password, reachable from the appliance.
- If you use a Proxmox Backup Server (PBS): its root password (or you can turn backups off).
Activate your licence
- On the Activation step, enter your Licence Key.
- Select Next.
Expected result: the wizard moves on to Account Information.
Create your admin account
- On the Account step, enter your Company Name — this names your root account.
- Enter the Admin Email, then set and confirm the Admin Password.
- The password must be at least 12 characters and include an uppercase letter, a number, and a special character.
- Select Next.
Expected result: your administrator login is created — you will use this email and password to sign in later. On a VMease appliance the network step is pre-filled and read-only, so the wizard goes straight to connecting your cluster.
Connect your first cluster
- On the Cluster step, enter a Site Name for this location.
- Under the Proxmox VE cluster, enter the Host IP Address and Host Root Password of your Proxmox host.
- Leave Enable Backups on and enter your Proxmox Backup Server (PBS) root password, or turn Enable Backups off if you are not using one.
- Select Scan Cluster.
Expected result: VMease connects to the host and discovers the cluster — you can watch the scan progress — then continues to a confirmation screen. Review it and continue.
Set compute and storage quotas
- On the Compute step, set the power-on limits for vCPU and RAM, or tick Infinite for no limit.
- On the Storage step, keep the storage devices you want to use and set each pool's size in GB.
- Mark one device with Send Firewall Usage Here (required to finish).
Expected result: the root quotas for this cluster are set.
Configure networking and finish
- On the Networking step, select the VM bridge NIC(s) to use and give each a friendly name (the default is Guest Traffic).
- On the Check step, review everything.
- To add more clusters, select Configure Another Cluster; otherwise select Finish Setup.
Expected result: setup is submitted and the appliance finishes provisioning — this can take a few minutes.
- When provisioning completes, the wizard returns you to the sign-in page.
- Sign in with the Admin Email and Password you created on the Account step.
Expected result: you are signed in to the VMease WebUI. For the sign-in details, see Logging in (click here).
