Onboard a tenant
Bring a new child account online: create the tenant with its first admin user, cap what it can consume with a quota, then share a network and a template so it has something to build on.
Onboard a tenant
Before you begin
Tenants are created one level under your own account, so you only ever work within your own scope.
- You need permission to create tenants, set quotas, and assign shared resources. If you are not sure, ask your administrator.
- You can only share networks and templates you own or that are assigned to you.
- The tenant is set up in the background: it appears as Creating and then becomes Active. Watch its progress in the Task Manager on the top bar.
- For the exact permissions each step needs, see the Permissions reference (click here).
A quota field left at 0 or unset means unlimited for that resource, so set explicit values wherever you want a cap.
Create the tenant
A new tenant is created together with its first Account-Admin user.
- Open Multi-tenancy → Tenants, then select Add.
- Enter the Account Name.
- Enter the Admin Email, an optional Admin Display Name, and set the Admin Password with confirmation.
- Save the form.
Expected result: the account is provisioned and appears in the Tenants list as Creating, then Active.
Set its quota
Cap the tenant's compute and storage so it cannot over-consume shared capacity.
- Open Multi-tenancy → Tenants and open the tenant you just created.
- On the Quotas & Pricing card, select Create Quota (or Edit if one already exists).
- Adjust the compute quotas (RAM and CPU per-hour pricing) and the storage quotas (guaranteed size and GB per-hour pricing).
- Leave any quota at 0 or unset to grant unlimited capacity for that resource; enter a value wherever you want a hard cap.
- Save your changes.
Expected result: the Quotas & Pricing card reflects the updated compute and storage entries.
Share a network and a template
Give the tenant a network to attach VMs to and a template to deploy from.
- Open Multi-tenancy → Shared Resources.
- Open the Networks tab and select Assign.
- Choose the tenant account, select the network to share, and save.
- Open the Templates tab and select Assign.
- Choose the tenant account, select the template to share, and save.
Expected result: the network and template appear on the tenant's detail cards and become available inside that account; any conflicts are listed instead of being applied.
Notes
- Switch into the tenant's context and confirm its admin can sign in and see the shared resources before you hand the account over.
